Dr. Taskiran uses mindfulness and mentalization-based approaches for adolescents, evidence-based psychotherapy techniques, such as cognitive behavioral therapy for children, as well as psychopharmacological treatments. He is considered an expert in college mental health problems and is interested in adjustment problems, especially in cross-cultural settings. He served as Voluntary Expert Consultant at the School for Autistic Children of Bursa (2012). He also organized the Psychiatry of Chronic Diseases in Children workshop at Hacettepe University’s Faculty of Medicine (2001) and served as the Project Officer of Peer Educator on the Turkish Medical Students International Committee (1998-2001). Sarper Taskiran, MD, attended Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi/ Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara, Turkey, and received his medical degree in 2002. Then, he served as a postdoctoral associate at Yale University’s Clinical Neuroscience Unit (2002-2004). Furthermore, he conducted his general psychiatry residency at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, CT (2004-2008). In addition, he completed his fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Child Study Center at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone (2008-2010). Dr. Taskiran received board certification in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His current research interests are neuropsychological measures of Attention Disorders and Childhood Mood Disorders. Dr. Taskiran has also performed research on face-emotion recognition in children with severe mood dysregulation, as well as emotional and social predictors of functioning in people with attentional disorders.
